The Luxardo Original Maraschino Cherries were first produced at the Luxardo plant in Zara around 1905, likely to be the first of their kind in the world. The cherries are Marasca cherries in pure, rich Marasca syrup, that come from the 22,000+ cherry trees owned by the Luxardo family in the Veneto region of Italy. The Marasca cherry is a sour cherry variety exclusively cultivated by Luxardo, and used by the family for distilling its renowned Maraschino Liqueur, and for infusing the Cherry liqueur “Sangue Morlacco”. Today, they are used by the finest Mixologists worldwide, as they are extraordinary and elegant in cocktails and phenomenal for cooking. No artificial colouring, thickening agents or preservatives of any kind are used.
